The site was launched when my book <em>Creature and Creator <\/em> was initially published in 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-18\" src=\"https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/front-cover.jpg\" alt=\"front cover\" width=\"284\" height=\"380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/front-cover.jpg 489w, https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/front-cover-224x300.jpg 224w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 284px) 100vw, 284px\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>The site provides <a href=\"https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/?page_id=30\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">information about the book<\/a> with&nbsp;short excerpts from each of its chapters. Longer excerpts from the book in pdf format and colored versions of the book&#8217;s original diagrams in jpg format can be <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/?page_id=73\" target=\"_blank\">downloaded<\/a>. The complete book can be <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/?page_id=44\" target=\"_blank\">purchased<\/a> in paperback through Amazon.com.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>The site also provides some brief biographical notes about myself, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/?page_id=25\" target=\"_blank\">Terry Picton.<\/a>&nbsp;The <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/?page_id=153\" target=\"_blank\">Science<\/a> page linked to the biography deals with my scientific research. A review of my audiometric research  is  available on the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Hearing (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/?page_id=2080\" target=\"_blank\">Objective Audiometry<\/a> page. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the years I have collected photographs by various masters of the black and white from Ansel Adams to Brett Weston. These are considered in several essays linked through the page <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/?page_id=3052\" target=\"_blank\">A Way of Looking<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/?page_id=1620\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Intersections<\/a> page provides the notes for courses on Religion and Science presented to the <a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/thelifeinstitute.ca\/?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Life Institute at Ryerson University <\/a>and the <a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/llir.ca\/welcome-to-llir\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Living and Learning in Retirement Group<\/a> at Glendon College. These courses cover many of the issues considered in the book. The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/?page_id=1330\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Brain and Mind,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/?page_id=1402\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Voices<\/a>&nbsp;and <a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/?page_id=1981\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Story of Science<\/a> pages link to teaching materials for other courses given&nbsp;at the LIFE Institute. The first deals with Human Neuroscience. The Story of Science considers the history of science.The Voices page links to &#8220;<a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/?page_id=1782\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Voices that Matter<\/a>&#8221; on 20th Century Poetry and to &#8220;<a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/?page_id=1787\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Northern Voices<\/a>&#8221; on Canadian Poetry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The site also provides information about <em><a href=\"https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/?p=4312\">Windfall Light<\/a><\/em>, a self-published book of poem written over the course of my life \u2013 an old man\u2019s self-indulgence. And about <em>On this<\/em> <em>Short Day of Frost and Sun<\/em>, an annotated anthology of poems that I have enjoyed reading \u2013 available as a <a href=\"https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/?p=3943\">large pdf file<\/a> which includes readings of the poems, or a smaller <a href=\"https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/?p=3915\">text-only pdf file<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An <a href=\"https:\/\/creatureandcreator.ca\/?page_id=48\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ongoing blog<\/a>\u00a0considers issues of interest to me. These are mainly related to the topics covered in the book. As well as being beautiful, the painting suggests the wholeness, transience and goodness of the world, and serves notice that there is still life to be lived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The name of this site and the book comes from Nietzsche&#8217;s&nbsp;<em>Beyond Good and Evil <\/em>(1886):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p style=\"padding-left:50px;padding-right:50px;\">In man <em>creature <\/em>and <em>creator <\/em>are united: in man there is material, fragment, excess, clay, dirt, nonsense, chaos; but in man there is also creator, form giver, hammer, hardness, spectator divinity, and seventh day: do you understand this contrast?<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This site deals with the intersections of science, art and religion.
